COSHH chemical register. A printable register of every product in use on a site — what it is, where it is stored, which assessment covers it and whether its safety data sheet is current.
This is the paper version. CleanOptix does the same job on a phone, with the record filed against the site and the cleaner automatically.

What is on the sheet
- A row per product: name, manufacturer, what it is used for and where it is stored
- Hazard classification as the label states it, rather than as the register interprets it
- Safety data sheet held, its version and date, and where the sheet actually is
- Which COSHH assessment covers the product, by reference
- Who is trained to use it, and whether any product is restricted to particular staff
- A review line, so a superseded data sheet and a discontinued product are both visible
Why this record matters
A register is how you find out what is actually on a site, which is almost never what the contract says. Products arrive from other sites, get bought locally when stock runs out, and are left behind by the previous contractor — and none of those are covered by an assessment.
The data sheet version is the field that matters most and is almost never recorded. Manufacturers reformulate; a data sheet from four years ago may describe a product that no longer exists, and an assessment built on it is assessing the wrong hazards. Recording the version and date is what makes that visible.
Storage is on the register because it is where the avoidable incidents happen. Products decanted into unlabelled bottles, incompatible products on the same shelf, and chemicals stored in an unventilated cupboard with the mop bucket are all register findings before they are accident reports.
The restricted-products line exists because not everything should be available to everyone. A product that needs ventilation, specific PPE or particular training is one that should not be in the general store on a site where the night cleaner works alone.
Use it with
- COSHH assessment formA printable COSHH assessment for a cleaning task — the product, the hazards from its safety data sheet, who is exposed and how, and the controls that actually apply.
- Cleaning risk assessmentA printable general risk assessment for cleaning work — slips, manual handling, working alone, electrical equipment, height and the public, with the controls that apply to this site.
- Cleaning staff training recordA printable training and induction record per cleaner — site induction, COSHH, equipment, manual handling and what they were actually shown.
